This is a very convenient tool. From now all sql upgrades and patches are easily applyable. You should not go into your phpMyAdmin to upgrade database structure. If a new version is released you just upload sql file in upgrades directory. After that you go into admin panel and choose the patch file. Click apply and that's all.
